The inspiration to start a chocolate and gelato company came while my partner and I were on holiday one summer, visiting friends in Canada. Every time we visit our friends, we go to a chocolate and ice cream shop in Toronto called Sweet Olenkas to have some homemade ice cream and this sparked the idea, whilst sitting by a beautiful lake with a bottle of wine, that we could do something similar at home in the UK.

I have always had a love of good food, cooking and baking, but had done very little in the kitchen since leaving home to study art at university. After working as a PA for 15 years, I have now found the perfect vocation for me, which combines a great deal of organisation, with a passion for quality chocolate and gelato, and a hands on approach with a creative twist!


In January and April 2018, I attended two Masterclasses with Peebles-based UK World Chocolate Master, Ruth Hinks. She was fantastic and really helped me begin to understand the technical side to chocolate making and how to develop my own range. I am now constantly working on new additions and improvements to the artisan chocolate range at Cocolato.

In November 2019, we opened a chocolate shop in our home town - Marple, which is just on the edge of the beautiful Peak District but only a 20 minute train journey from Manchester city centre. The shop is situated the pedestrian precinct in the heart of the bustling town centre.


Here you can choose your personal favourites from the chocolate fridge, or put together a bespoke box for a gift. We also have a range of chocolate treat bags, hot chocolate and chocolate lollipops which are not available online…or why not treat yourself to a gelato in a crisp waffle cone. You can take a seat under our awning and do a spot of people watching while you enjoy your gelato. If one scoop simply isn’t enough, we also do larger tubs to take home!


We are open on Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday. This allows me to make fresh chocolates and gelato at the beginning of each week.
